Global 30 Program 2015
6/20

International Bioengineering PrCourse IntroductionBP seeks to recruit qualied individuals from around the globe, regardless of nationality, and provide them with advanced education in the elds of life science and biotechnology. At the same time, we seek to considerably enhance the levels of basic research for nurturing new industries in these elds. Through advanced education and research activities, we are able to fulll the aspirations of the Graduate School of Engineering as a whole: to act as a leader in creating an engineering environment with Asia at its core. This program accepts 10 promising international students every year and provides them with two years of high-level Master’s degree education in bioengineering, in English. This is one of the international extensions of the activities of the Department of Bioengineering, which aims to bridge the gap between biological sciences and their applications in the real world, such as health care, medicine, welfare and drug discovery; issues in environment energy and food; safety and security, and information and communication technologies. The education and research of the Department of Bioengineering is divided into six elds: mechanobio-engineering, bioelectronics, biodevices, chemical bioengineering, biomaterials and bioimaging. In this new international program, lectures concerning general bioengineering-related concepts and specic topics in each of the six elds of research will be conducted, as well as more intimate discussion-based seminars both in basic bioscience and bioindustry. We are especially attentive to the inclusion of the latest research achievements from each of the six elds in lecture content. In addition to these classes, students must conduct master thesis research in each laboratory. Through specialized education and research curriculum, the International Bioengineering Program is able to foster exceptional students with good English communication skills in science and engineering and who have both a wide vision and specic expertise in at least one of the six areas, so that they may take active roles in the research and development of rapidly advancing bioengineering-related elds.Students are requested to obtain over 30 ISix elds form the core of the Department of Bioengineering : Mechanobioengineering, Bioelectronics, Biodevices, Chemical Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Bioimaging. The key features of the elds are to establish a theoretical basis by understanding and clarifying the interactions of materials and systems with living bodies, and to develop fundamental technologies that control these interactions based on the theory. Research topics such as 3D fabrication of organs, biological inspired devices for sensing, diagnosis and treatment of diseases, biomolecule control and design, high performance and innovative materials controlling the activities of cells, tissues and organs, and imaging technologies for diagnosis and biofunction analysis, are among current interests of the Department of Bioengineering. 05 | Global 30 Master’s Global 30 Special English Course CurrentResearch
